12:05 am - New song(RAW)

lil something that i just had to write today jus to get it off my mind and to try to put into words what some of us feel sometimes when we try to help someone and get burnt in the process when they themselves do nothin...its raw so it hardly rhymes and stuff..very diff from my previous material but tell me what you think!

You look at me all jaded
Defeated and bruised you look to me for comfort
But all I can do is watch
So close I can feel you but you’re just out of reach

Tried fighting your battle with you
Seemed like I was da only one takin the shots
You could’ve said anything yeah
But I was left hangin there trying to shield your pain

I can’t help you no more,
If u ain’t gonna close the door
Tell them no more
Gotta stand your ground

You gotta take the stand,
Do what’s right and amend
Stand up soldier and fight,
follow da guiding light
Do whatever it takes babe,
no matter if your heart breaks
You gotta set youself free,
you’ll never be lonely

Why you so scared to release
All the pressure and the emotions that you feel,
Just like edges of a sword
Use words for damage; make ‘em listen till you’re heard

And when words fail you
Don’t you dare give up, theres so much more u can do
Your life’s on da line soldier
When da war’s over, its gonna be either them or you

8:20 pm - new song on myspace

Wrote a new ditty. Kind of a song about frustration. I call it "I wake up screaming" and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Did some stuff that i don't usually do in my songs (Falcetto, and vocal effects). So check it out. I hope ya dig it.

7:51 pm

These thoughts, always within me,
Constant and loud, they’re so heavy
I try to block them out but I just can’t
Consumed by them, I get tormented and bent
Sometimes I just close my eyes
And try to vision the stillness of silence
But with every failed attempt, I realize
To deny them, doesn’t promise their absence

Its like a million voices all whispering at once,
Trying to say something but I am not listening
So they all begin to scream out loud
And I lose myself and then its my turn to shout
“ stop this madness, whats going on?
All I want is for ya’ll to be gone
So get out of here leave me alone,
I just need some time on my own!”

But this shit don’t work, its useless
All I hear are more words and abuses
Every single line, louder then before
I don’t even feel my conscious self no more
So I turn out the lights and lay in bed
Hoping when I wake up, everything’s gone from my head
But I know...that they’ll be resting too
Cuz tomorrow is a new day, they gots some more to do

And I, Just wanna be alone
Leave me here, here on my own
I need some space to breathe
Leave, get out of my mind
Yeah I just wanna find
A place that I can be… me

So stop, telling me just what to do
You know I don’t give a damn about you
You can say whatever you wanna say,
But I’ll be laughin at you at the end of the day
So turn down the bickering, dull down the noise
All I want to be hearing is the sound of my voice
Every step I take is gonna be all mine
No worries here people, I’ll be just fine

Leave this stupid charade and let it all go
I see through everything, your whole damn show
You tried to blind me with the colours, the lights
But I guess you failed cuz I’m one who fights
I’m breaking down your act piece by piece
A whole lotta drama performing a slow striptease
Then in the end, its you that I’ll find
The puppeteer behind it all, the mastermind

You wanna be the one to always be there tell me
What to do, where I go and who I see
What actions to take and which promises to make
Whose words to speak and what to put at stake
But I cant have none of that shit no more
You gonna have to pack you things and head for the door
Can’t be no one making my moves for me
I want freedom of choice, expression of individuality

And I, Just wanna be alone
Leave me here, here on my own
I need some space to breathe
Leave, get out of my mind
Yeah I just wanna find
A place that I can be… me

One voice still blaring out in dissonance
The sound so loud it blurs my conscience
But to whom does this voice belong?
Holy shit … its really been me all along…

3:11 pm - seeking validation (a new song posted)

A while back, i wrote a song called Work in Progress. It's taken me forever to get it recorded. I had a definite sound I was looking for, and just really struggled trying to get the recording to sound right. The song works ok live acoustic, but I had bigger ideas for it.

well, after playing around with audio setups, I finally got the guitar sounding the way I want.

the good news is, after all the time and frustration and work I put into the song, I'm pretty happy with the final recording.

so give it a listen, and feel free to let me know what ya think

4:19 pm - For your enjoyment, a song

She Visits Me 01/29/06

a pop song in the key of A

She turns around, eyes open
no words spoken
worlds unwoven
'tween us as we
glanced aside

I sat upon the blazing
street her bare feet open
broken cobblestones beneath
a worn bedsheet we lie

With open palms eloping
stroking groping hillsides
oceans out the front door
pillowfights and starry skies

Chorus thing:
It was the only love I ever knew
It was the only time I'd ever lose control

She sits down across me lost me
kissed me touched me loved me softly
left me high and left me dry

I wrote her letters desperate
told her stories, held her closely
she told me good luck and good bye

1:13 pm - I need your help.

I'm not a professional songwriter or a recording artist. I just like to dabble at home and stuff. With that out of the way...

I need your help. This is something I simply cannot do on my own.

I need you to record (by whatever means you please) a clip of yourself saying "I love you" and email it as an attachment in any audio format to me at mika@jella.net. I don't care how scratchy it sounds, or whatever. Quality isn't important, what matters is that you say it like you mean it.

Please help me out.

9:20 pm - new song

Got home from work today and sat down with my guitar. Thought maybe I'd try to learn a new cover or two... instead, I ended up writing a new ditty.

It's called "So Far". I't kind of about being in a relationship that sucks, but not wanting to leave because it's what's comfortable. Not sure where I got the idea, seeing as I haven't had a steady girlfriend in about 2 years... but hey, when life isn't providing you with real events to write about, why not make stuff up, right?

So give it a listen and let me know what you think. It's a very rough recording (sloppy guitar, some vocal timing is a bit off), but I think some of the lyrics are really solid.

10:16 pm - new recording posted.

I finally got around to doing some more work with garageband. I've had this song about half done for a month now, just hadn't taken the time to finish it.

It's called "Gone". of my original songs, this one seems to get the most widely positive feedback.

Check it out on MySpace and let me know what ya think...

12:42 pm - untitled

There she goes again,
running out the door
Going as fast as she can,
leaving pearls of tears on the floor

And some nights she cries
wiping those tears from her weary eyes
She wishes things hadn't had to be that way
Hopes things're gonna change some day

And she sends a prayer out everynight
prayer for things to be alright
If only someone could her her screams
In an envelope sealed with shattered dreams

She's been through it before,
But now she noes she wants it for sure
She's gonna leave the pain behind,
shes gonna..

unfold her wings and fly
like an angel in the midnight sky
In the darkness of the night
She's gonna leave it all behind
The stars are gonna guide her home
To the place where she knows she belongs

There're days she wakes up cold
nauseated by the things she's been told
She knows what she hears is true
But thats just it..this is just you

You take what you've been given
and turn your life around
Thats just the way it is
You gotta be lost, you gotta be found

Just a painful mistake,
now she's left in its wake
She's gonna leave it all,
she's gonna..

There she goes again,
running out the door
Going as fast as she can,
leaving pearls of tears on the floor

8:46 pm - New Music

This is a slow ballad in the key of A, more or less. In terms of accompaniment, remember that less is more. Hold back and use slow, even strums on the guitar until the chorus, where the entire band comes in with energy. Keep the energy sustained through the bridge, until the final chorus is heard. The final chorus should be performed guitar solo - thinly, plaintively - as if the performer doesn't quite believe what she herself is singing.

There are some new chords I use which aren't really properly constructed chords at all, but more like fusions of two chords together, often with a pedal bass to hold the harmonies together. For instance, the Cmaj-min7/A actually functions more as an A-root minor seventh chord in the bridge. Here's a quick breakdown.

B-5 \

Take Heart

"It's always winter in my head,"
I said one day
But I take my chances
On the weather anyway.
And I can't depend on what the world
Thinks I should do or say.

It's not that ha--rd.
We've come so far...

I still remember what you said
To me that night,
"You take your chances
On the Dark or on the Light."
I only know that I will fight,
For what I know is right, is right.

It's not that ha--rd.
We've come so far on our-

Only the lonely
Have to try again.
Only the lonely
Have broken hearts to mend.
Only the lonely
Have to learn to love all over again.

It's not that ha--rd.
We've come so far on our own.

8:07 pm - one more tune

Ahh, the joys of a day off from work. All the time in the world to sit down, and do with a song what you've always wanted to do.

There is another song up on my myspace page (http://www.myspace.com/sethallen). This one hasen't been available on line yet, but I've been playing it live for about 7 months or so. I've always played it as an acoustic rock song. Easily my most up-tempo original. But I've always felt the song just really wanted some electric guitar backing it up. And now that I have better recording gear/software, I could finally do it up right, rock and roll style.

It's called "lately". Check it out and lemme know what ya think.
